Miriam Hamann ist bildende Künstlerin und lebt und arbeitet in Wien und Linz. Sie studierte Transdisziplinäre Kunst an der Universität für Angewandte Kunst, davor Kunst und kommunikative Praxis. Hamann nahm an mehreren Artist Residencies sowie an zahlreichen nationalen und internationalen Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen teil und erhielt für ihre Arbeiten diverse Stipendien und Preise. Ihre Werke sind in öffentlichen und privaten Sammlungen vertreten.

Miriam Hamann is a visual artist who currently lives and works in Vienna and Linz. She received her MA in Transdisciplinary Art from the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and previously completed a degree in Art and Communication Practices.
Hamann has participated in several artist residencies, as well as numerous national and international solo and group exhibitions, and has received various grants and prizes. Her works are represented in both public and private collections.

In ihren skulpturalen und installativen Arbeiten geht Miriam Hamann der Frage nach, wie unsere Realität strukturiert ist. Dabei greift sie naturwissenschaftliche Phänomene und Referenzsysteme auf und reflektiert deren Normativität, Abstraktion und ästhetische Wirkungsweise. Die daraus entstehenden Werke repräsentieren somit einerseits (natur-)wissenschaftliche Phänomene und die
mit ihnen verbundenen Gesetzmäßigkeiten, auf der anderen Seite übersetzen sie diese auf formal reduzierte, ästhetische Weise, hinterfragen sie und machen sie neu erfahrbar.
Neben dieser Erforschung wissenschaftlicher Erkenntnisse ist auch die Beobachtung der
unmittelbaren Umgebung ein weiteres zentrales Merkmal in Hamanns Praxis. So legt die Künstlerin besonderes Augenmerk auf jene kleinen und subtilen Dinge, die unsere Realität formen, jedoch oft unbeachtet bleiben. Die skulpturale Objekthaftigkeit alltäglicher Gegenstände und deren De- und Rekontextualisierung spielt dabei eine ebenso wichtige Rolle wie das Immaterielle Material Licht.

Miriam Hamann’s work results from a fascination of natural science and its impact on our reality. In her installations and sculptural works, the artist investigates scientific phenomena and reference systems, reflecting on their norms, abstractions, and aesthetic impacts.
Her works thus both represent these scientific phenomena and their associated laws, and translatethem into formally reduced and aesthetic forms. Through this process, she not only offers newperspectives on scientific principles but also questions their inherent norms.
In addition to exploring scientific knowledge, observing the immediate surroundings is anothercentral aspect of Hamann’s practice. Therefore the artist pays special attention to the small, subtle details that shape our reality but often go unnoticed. The sculptural nature of everyday objects,along with their de- and recontextualization, is as important in her work as the immaterial material of light.
